FIO (latin for “to become”) is the brainchild of Joanna So, Asia’s biggest YouTube fitness star with over 1.2million followers. Joanna decided after 8 years of YouTube content that it might be time to build an Asian based fitness APP and she called on me to discuss the possibility of developing one. My role with Joanna is to support and mentor her through the process, bounce ideas and create marketing and social media messages that drive people to the APP and sign on with a subscription.
Even though it is developed in Malaysia (where we live), the workouts, recipes and mindfulness content target a global audience. We have a mix of nationalities and backgrounds across the 6 trainers that provide content – from HIIT, strength and conditioning, yoga, booty band and now Pilates. The app has had over 10,000 downloads (as we offer a 7-day free trial). Over 12 months (we celebrate one year Jan 1st), we have added up to 10 new workouts/month, new recipes every month and from August, we started adding 5-min Mindfulness, Training and Motivation talks. This app really is an all-in-one.
This is my first foray into digital fitness and I have learnt A LOT. While I do spend time coaching the trainers and writing scripts, I also enjoy the creative aspect of developing my own yoga workouts targeted towards people that don’t normally practice yoga – per fun!
We have some pretty big goals for 2020 and we look forward to helping more people get fit at home.
